Walking round The British Museum, I saw a Saxon figurehead which was the inspiration for this piece. After the sculpture was complete I looked up the figurehead on-line and discovered I had misremembered almost everything about it; the mouth was open, it had teeth, eyes and a pattern around the neck. I love the shape of the end result almost as much as the original.The wood is oak, from the trunk of a tree that was taken down in our garden some years ago.
